Polar bear letters contest

From December 1st, 2009, to February 28, 2010, let’s participate in the “Polar Bear letters contest”. To the two grand prizes winners: A trip to Nunavik!!! To participate, send a letter to the bear to explain your understanding of climate change issues and their impact on Planet Earth. Through this letter, you will describe ways of addressing climate change on your personal level as well as on the level of society as a whole. You will also pledge to adopt new habits to reduce your greenhouse gaz emissions.

Teachers : materials are available to help your students to participate in the “Polar Bear letters contest”.

I pledge to adopt the following habit over the next year to reduce my greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and protect the polar bear (you can choose more than one new habit):

  At home, I take charge of composting organic material for my whole family,
             comprised of people (~ 50 of CO2/year/person)
  At least once a week, I encourage carpooling with 2 of my friends to get to activities that can’t              be reached by public transit (~ 200 kg of CO2/year)
  I lower the temperature in my room by at least 3°C every night (~ 15 of CO2/year)
  At least 3 times a week, I reduce my shower time by 5 minutes (~ 10 kg of CO2/year)

Through these new habits, I will save kg of CO2 per year.
